Horagina betta trek was organised by our office HR team. It is a small lesser known hill next to the more famous Nandi hill near Bengaluru. Its a one day trip from Bengaluru. Easy trek with various flowers, insects, lizards and butterflies on the trail.
Date – 3rd August, 2019
Location – Horagina Betta
Horagina betta is around 70kms from Bengaluru. It is also called Nandi one hill and it houses a Shani temple at the top. This trek was organised by our office HR team with the help of BMC guides. I reached office at 6:30 am for the trek. Out of the 36 people registered, only 17 showed up. We started from Bellandur at 7:15 in the arranged private bus. Had breakfast on the way and reached the trek start point at 9:30 – 10am.
The start point is the check-post on the Nandi hills road. Though we started our trek late, the weather was really good and the sun did not come out during the entire trek. We were the only group trekking here on a Saturday. This was really surprising for me, especially knowing how crowded Nandi hills gets on a good monsoon weekend. The trail was clean and green. The wind was getting stronger as we got to the top. We could see various insects, lizards, flowers and butterflies on the trek and the view of the field and the surrounding hills was also beautiful.
Reached the top and spent sometime there. Then we took a different route for the descent. We got down on the other side of the hill. On the descent we visited the Shani temple and from there we had a good view of the nearby hills – Nandi hill, Channagiri and Skandagiri hills. The descent was easy and quick. We were back on the Nandi hills road after scaling the hill. We had to walk back on the road to reach our bus. The time was 2:30pm. We had our packed lunch in the bus and travelled back to Bengaluru and reach Bellandur by 4pm.
There is no special permission needed for this trek and this can be done without a guide as well. The trail is also not very difficult to find.
