Trip through the ages – Pattadakal

Day 2 – 19/09/2018

Location –

We finished seeing the temples in Aihole and picked up Philip and left to Pattadakal by 2pm. We reached in half an hour and first had our lunch – local roti. Once our stomachs were full, we decided to see the temples nearby.

Group of monuments

All the temples/monuments are inside one single complex here. Philip wanted to do paintings of the monuments. So we arranged him to catch the last bus that leaves from here to Badami and carried on to the complex. We booked the tickets and started walking towards the monuments in the hot afternoon sun.

Virupaksha temple is the grandest temple in this complex. We first visited this temple. Every inch of the temple had inscriptions with intricate designs reciting age old stories. There is a big beautiful Nandi statue outside this temple. After spending sometime at this temple we quickly moved onto the other temples in this complex. Kashivishveshvara temple, Mallikarjuna temple, Sangamesvara temple, Chandrashekhara temple, Galaganatha temple, Jambulinga temple, Kadasiddeshwara temple.

Soon we were tired because of the hot weather and decided to drive to Badami and take rest for the rest of the day. We reached Badami by 5pm and booked rooms in Hotel Mayura Chalakya, Badami.
